About Love Art

The Love Art story began at the University of Connecticut, where co-founders Ron SH and Jessica Chiep attended as undergrads. After graduation, they pursued careers far outside the food industry—Ron in marketing and sales in Boston, and Jessica as a cytogeneticist at Brigham Women’s Hospital. Yet their shared passion for travel and cooking cultivated a deep appreciation for the diverse cuisines they experienced abroad, ultimately inspiring them to bring that love for food back home.

Their first venture, Haru Aki Café in Storrs, CT, introduced the campus community to comfort foods rarely seen in the area—okonomiyaki, curry udon, sushi, bubble tea, and more. As the café grew alongside the university, a busy evening in 2014 sparked a turning point: faced with long lines for sushi rolls, Ron improvised a quicker option with the help of friends on the football team by serving fresh raw fish over rice with veggies and sauce. That “secret menu item”, nicknamed the Husky Bowl, quickly became a campus sensation.

By 2015, the idea had evolved into an entirely new concept: Love Art Sushi. With a vision to return to Boston and bring their fresh, flavorful approach to a larger community, Ron and Jessica opened the first Love Art Sushi in Fenway/Back Bay in January 2017.

Love Art Sushi’s mission is simple: to offer delicious, customizable meals at an affordable price. Ingredients are prepared daily in small batches to ensure the highest freshness, and the team is committed to going above and beyond for every guest.

The brand reflects Ron and Jessica’s unique journey—Japanese flavors blended with Hawaiian influences, viewed through a New England lens. More than just food, Love Art embodies a philosophy of hospitality, culture, and creativity that continues to shape the dining experience today.
